"Truth will not make us rich, but it will make us free. Freedom to think and act beyond our own perceived limitations." Durant, The Story of Philosophy"
Does our society even value truth anymore? No matter where you look someone is bending the truth or out and out lying to achieve personal gratification. I read something once that conceived me that I am not a pessimist, but a skeptic. It is so hard to believe what anyone says, because no one says anything that does not personally benefit their own self interests.
Where does one find peace in a world designed to trample the underdog; to cheat others of their hard work and dedication; to emotionally destroy one's sense of accomplishment by degrading their talents. I do not know the answer to how we change the world, but it seems we are headed in the wrong direction. A society where deceit and self promotion is honored and truth no longer exists is fast becoming a dead culture.
Hundreds of years ago humanity relied on each other in order to survive. We worked together to feed our families, build our homes, and protect each other. In our "enlightened," industrialized world you need only yourself, a good grocery store to supply your worldly needs, and an internet connection so you don't get lonely. Is it any wonder why our society is losing ground?
